This was a surprisingly difficult scene to color effectively.

The massive concept of this portray is the good, shimmering mild reflecting off the water. It was virtually blinding in individual. I additionally wished to seize the placing distinction between the sunshine and the half-silhouetted rocks, and the way the robust sea breeze stirred up the water’s floor and the vegetation alongside the shoreline.

That is a type of instances the place the reference picture doesn’t do the scene justice. There’s no approach a digicam can seize the brilliance of seeing this dance of sunshine, coloration, wind, and waves in individual. Not with present know-how anyway.

To color this scene successfully, I had to attract on my reminiscences from Perth, notably my first impressions of the scene as I stood overlooking the rocky shoreline. First impressions are gold as they assist make clear what it’s you’re actually portray. That’s why I choose to color from current experiences, as I can nonetheless draw on these first impressions while they’re contemporary in my thoughts and earlier than time has its approach with them.

Extra portray tricks to come. In the event you ever wish to study extra, take a look at my e book, 21 Simple Methods to Enhance Your Work.
