First Soloist Tanya Howard is ready to retire after 25 years with The Nationwide Ballet of Canada on the finish of the 2022/23 season. Howard shall be honoured onstage by the corporate at a celebratory efficiency as she dances the function of the Stepsister in James Kudelka’s Cinderella on March 12, 2023.

“I really feel so lucky to have spent my profession at The Nationwide Ballet of Canada. I’ve made lifelong associates at this firm and shared so many memorable experiences each on stage and within the studio. I’ve labored with a few of the world’s best dance artists and been given so many unimaginable roles which have allowed me to develop as a dancer and an individual. My determination that it’s time to retire from performing with the Nationwide Ballet is bittersweet however there’s a lot to be pleased about and I stay up for celebrating with my colleagues and our audiences on March 12 with one among my favorite roles, the Stepsister in Cinderella.”
Howard was born in Uitenhage, South Africa and skilled at The Nationwide College of the Arts in South Africa and Canada’s Nationwide Ballet College. She joined The Nationwide Ballet of Canada in 1998 and was promoted to First Soloist in 2007. A charismatic artist with a surprising stage presence, Howard shone equally in up to date works, experimental new productions in addition to legacy ballets.
Along with enchanting audiences within the many roles she has danced, Howard is leaving an indelible mark on such roles because the Lilac Fairy in Rudolf Nureyev’s The Sleeping Magnificence and the Snow Queen in James Kudelka’s The Nutcracker.
In 2016, Howard was awarded the David Tory Award and in 2011, was awarded the William Marrié Award for Dramatic Excellence for her portrayal of the Queen of Hearts in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
